Blackstone Forge & Foundry, Friday

Henry did not own a lot of clothes, though he had recently, at least, acquired a coat through his earnings from the forge. And thus, when he finally made it to the forge come morning, in the coat and some Shenanigans t-shirt, he was--

"How? I haven't-- what's the-- how?"

He was, usually, a bit better at rolling with Fandom's strange whims nowadays; but sometimes, in the face of ruined clothes and no soap in sight, he could still lapse and panic and...

"Water. The water's returned!"

Sorry, forge. You'd be lit eventually. Just not before Henry washed everything he was wearing.

Rey's warehouse- Friday afternoon

Rey should have worn black. But no, she failed to look outside before leaving- a rookie mistake in December- and now she was going to have to spend a while in MCA's laundry room washing white clothes.

She was already irritated about that, but she was also spending training time trying to very carefully scrub the color off an unlucky woodchuck. "I'm going to need you to stop squirming if you want me to do this," she said. "Unless you want to run through the course while I turn on the rain controls."

Weather & Storms, Friday, Second Period

Thor was no longer a frog! This was cause for celebration, and also meant class was not canceled again. Instead, the students would enter the Danger Shop to find themselves in their pavilion, with hot drinks on hand and snowdrifts several feet high all around them.

"Those who live near the Great Lakes, or perhaps Lake Baikal or certain seas, will be familiar with lake-effect snow," Thor told his students. "This is when cold air moves across warmer waters for an extended period of time, picking up moisture from the lake in the lower layers of the air mass and freezing it in the upper layers. Once it reaches the shores and is no longer collecting more moisture, the moisture falls as snow, resulting in heavy precipitation to the tune of even several inches per hour. Buffalo, New York, for instance, once recorded more than eighty-two inches of snow in four days.

"Obviously, this can cause great difficulties for inhabitants of these regions. Roofs may be at risk of collapse under the great weight of the snow, and one can only dig out paths and cars so much. The drifts may be at risk of collapse, even, and may take up space such that some locations, such as parking lots, may need to have them removed to an alternate location. There is much to consider when precipitation does not merely sink into the ground, but perhaps the answer is to learn to live alongside the snow, and accept the shape of the seasons." Easy to say when you weren't the one who might have to exit your house through an upstairs window.

"This snow, unlike the snow outside, will not stain you, so you are free to enjoy it. Or, if you would rather be colorful, you can leave and go enjoy the true weather."

Meme: Do you know my canon?

It's my last day at this suckass job!! And all my work is being done by other people and I have literally nothing to do but I have to be here at least till lunch so they don't say I used a vacation day because I want to be paid out for it! So, here's a meme we last did in May of last year.

Trooper Station, Friday

Watts's normally ambling walk to the Trooper Station had become a bit of a mad dash today once he'd realised what was going on with the snow. Luckily, he'd been able to snatch up an abandoned newspaper (a real good trick in a town that didn't actually publish a newspaper these days, but Watts supposed some people must have subscriptions to publications from the mainland- or wherever it is they might be from, for that matter) and so while his hat had been speckled with a few flecks here or there, he'd managed to avoid most of it.

Once he'd settled in for the day he sent a quick text to Steven advising him to bring an umbrella when he came by for lunch, and then got down to business as usual at the Station. Which mostly meant fielding calls regarding lawn gnome thefts, today.

No, not thefts of gnomes. Thefts allegedly by the gnomes.

Fandom Radio, Friday, December 12

Good morning, everyone. If you haven't gone outside yet, it's snowing and making everything colorful.

*annoyed meowing*

Including Tony.

*more annoyed chittering*

And the squirrels, but I'm not going to give them baths. Let's get to the news, okay?

In classes, Liliana cancelled class due to excessive mistletoe, Belle was dealing with slightly less aggressive mistletoe in the library, and my class watched British people destroy s'mores.

*Tony meowing*

And my optimism a little bit, yeah. In town, Steven was doing a lot of work at the museum and Rey and Stark were very over the mistletoe. And that's everything! Have a great day.

Great British Bakeoff! But American! Thursday, December 11

Steve came into the class with a cat-shaped Tony on his shoulder. "So, leaving Tony alone during last week's class was a terrible idea," he said. "Fortunately, everything is almost dried out at home...but we're going to just sit and watch an episode of British people making food instead of setting anything onto the stove for Tony to knock over."

Tony looked unmoved. "It will be relaxing," Steve concluded.

Until the technical challenge was making s'mores, then Steve would be indignant.

Library, Thursday 12/11

Belle was as yet unaware of today's bit of oddness.

But then she hadn't been around anyone else so the mistletoe had not yet had any opportunities whatsoever. Would that change now? Nobody knew for sure. Certainly not Belle.

There was some mistletoe on the ceiling and creeping around the tops of tail shelves but there were also plenty of other decorations.

For now, Belle was happily reading a rather spicy romance novel at the desk.

The Perk- Thursday afternoon

Maybe it was because she'd been alone today before now, but Rey had made it to the Peek without incident. She'd ordered her drink without a problem.

But she'd just sat down at her table when the mistletoe started its thing, and she was glad she had a to go cup or the coffee would have gone everywhere.

The barista who'd made her drink kind of shrugged like she'd been dealing with this all day but hey, she was open. Rey was ignoring them both.

Moving on. Up at the School, Health Education had Liliana substituting and talking herbs, while in the Library, Arden had to deal with dogs and gremlins and the pipes.

The Dorms and Town were both fairly quiet, with Adrian also having pipe issues at Pick Your Poison, while Pam considered the horrors.

I don't know, maybe if you'd written more specific notes we'd know what horrors.

Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse, Thursday, Per 3

Liliana was a little more than halfway to the school when she noticed the mistletoe. She considered that, considered the fact that she was heading in to teach a class, and promptly decided that that was a mess she had no desire to deal with.

Soon, there was a message going around to everyone enrolled in Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse. Class canceled due to aggressive mistletoe.

Look, either you understood why this was a favor, or you would by that afternoon.

She also contemplated just having office hours instead, but something about the idea of catching up on grading gave her the shivers and so, she decided that the best thing to do would be to return home and let everything sort itself out next week.

Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

It was a busy time of year in work and out. At the moment Steven was combining the two, as Blathers had asked him to take care of sending something to the various vendors they used to wish them a happy holidays.

Which in turn had Steven grateful he'd already done his shopping for gifts for Blathers and Gregorith.

On top of that, Hanukkah was next week and there was a chance Steven and Llewellyn would be out of town for the bulk of it. As such Steven was busy making sure everything was taken care of just to be safe. He didn't want to leave Gregorith feeling like he'd been burdened with extra work during the holidays after all.

Steven was very busy behind the Welcome Desk, but interruptible for visitors of course.

Fandom Radio, Wednesday 12/10

Good morning. If you haven’t already tried do not try to shower you’ll regret it. Wait until tomorrow. It’s better that way. I promise.

*chittering*

No, I didn’t. I shower at night but I used the sink. So I know.

Right. It’s Wednesday. The island is odd and I hope you have bottled water if you need it. So now let’s talk about yesterday.

The School had the usual classes. Ghanima took her Reclaiming Your Childhood students sledding. Which could be fun, if it weren’t cold. Diplomacy students had to pretend to work in a call center and the squirrels seem extremely horrified. It’s like they’ve never met Anakin before. He’s like this. And my Dealing With Other People’s Trauma class was…mostly about me not liking winter and being frightened by yesterday’s reindeer which really isn’t funny even if Leroy is laughing.

Nothing from the dorms yesterday but a few notes from the town.

Adrian invited Rey to his grove to watch the reindeer.

And Kitty dealt with Tino trying to ride a reindeer and then Gregorith, who I still haven’t met yet, came in and they discussed the December oddness of the island.

Pick Your Poison, Wednesday

Adrian wasn't entirely sure how the water in his systems had gotten turned into holiday beverages, but then, who was he to grouse about magic not being logical?

So there would be no major cleaning today, leaving him time to work on his list of Christmas presents for people...and trying to convince Lydia-kitty to forgive him for not informing her that Bran turned into a raven before this. She was apparently very upset about him keeping that from her and was ostentatiously ignoring him.

And sometimes glancing backwards to make sure he noticed that she was VERY MUCH IGNORING HIM.

Fandom Library, Wednesday, December 10th

The worst thing about 'beverages from the pipes' day was not, as Arden was learning, the inability to shower before class. It wasn't even keeping your golden retriever brother from trying to drink mocha, despite chocolate being terrible for dogs! (And, you know, coffee was just terrible in general.) It was, apparently, keeping the gremlins from trying to start the sprinkler systems in the library so they could have something to drink.

"This stuff is literally on tap!" Arden protested. "Why are you trying to wreck the library?!?"

Fortunately, Raiden was happy to try to chase the gremlins off (she was pretty sure he thought it was a new and possibly best game), while Gray napped in the blanket sling she rigged up, but anybody looking for peace and quiet should try...pretty much anywhere else.

Health Education, Wednesday, Per 2

This was probably not the professor the class was expecting when they walked into the room. Luckily for them, said professor had Planeswalked to Ravnica for a shower this morning and therefore was in a much better mood than she might otherwise have been, had she not been able to do so. (Even luckier for them, said professor's fiancé was awake much earlier than she and had managed to stop her from getting into a shower on the island, and so she hadn't been drenched with either wine nor mocha.)

"Hello class," Liliana said. "Dr. Blake kindly took over one of my classes this semester and, in exchange, I promised to teach one of his. I am not a doctor and my health education was certainly very different than his, but one thing I did learn was knife and herb healing. There are a great many medicinal plants across the multiverse; many of them are also poisonous in the wrong dosage or from the wrong part, but that's a different class. Instead, I'm here to tell you about some of the more common medicinal herbs and plants you can find here on Earth and then show you how to use them."

Which wasn't as robust as if she were to do a class on Dominarian medicinal herbs, but a lot more useful.

Diplomacy, Tuesday, December 9, 2nd period

The classroom was set up like a call center, several reindeer somehow managing to get headsets around their antlers and lights. "Welcome to telling people what they don't want to hear, but in a nice way," began the man not known for ever telling anyone anything in a nice way.

"A properly diplomatic tone can smooth over any number of situations, even when it would be more satisfying in the short-term to knock head together," Ahsoka said in the tone of someone who'd been witness to many such occasions.

"That's why this exercise is over the comms instead of in person," Anakin said. "As long as you control your voice, your face can do whatever it wants."

including judging you, as shown by Ahsoka's as she continued. "You'd be surprised what you can get away with if you sound sufficiently mysterious and wise."

Reclaiming Your Childhood, Tuesday, Period [12/9]

Students today had been instructed to meet at Ghanima's classroom today, where there were trucks and trunks of winter gear. Snow suits, boots, mittens, hats, scarves... if you could dream it, she had it, in your size.

Brand new, even, as if perhaps some winter fairy had gone shopping with each person in mind.

"Suit up," Ghanima said cheerfully, doing her best to wrangle mittens on to a reticent Trebor. "We're popping off-campus to go play outside -- to go sledding!"

"A lot of Earth media about winter or winter holidays has a scene in it about sledding, also known as sledging or sleighing. It is a winter sport typically carried out in a prone or seated position on a vehicle generically known as a sled. It is also the basis of three Olympic sports: luge, skeleton and bobsledding."

"The practical use of sleds is ancient and widespread. They were used as vehicles to transport materials and/or people, often in icy and snowy conditions. Early designs included hand-pulled sizes as well as larger dog, reindeer, horse, or ox drawn versions."

"In the modern day, the term 'sledding' refers to traveling down a snowy hill using a flat sled, sometimes made out of wood, but flat plastic or aluminum discs and improvised sleds such as baking trays, cafeteria trays, sheets of cardboard, car tires, and so on, may also be used.

"Dress for warmth," she warned, "as we will be outside for the next hour. However, if it gets to be too much, you can always come back to the classroom to warm up."

Dealing With Other People's Trauma, Tuesday 12/9

“The reindeer,” Stark said with a sigh, “are not attacking even if you think they are because you were once attacked by an inflatable reindeer that tried to eat you.”

He paused. “That was almost certainly just my experience. Never mind. In any case, the reindeer are not trying to hurt anyone.”

Probably. But who knew, really?

“So. I was frightened by that, briefly.” But he had not shot any reindeer, he'd just jumped and screamed a little it was fine.

“Sometimes, things you don't expect can come up. Like reindeer running towards you. Or anything else that might remind you of a negative memory. Winter is like that for me. Cold weather and snow and ice often have me remembering things I'd rather not spend too much time thinking of. A…a lot of things happened in the winter but we're not here to talk about me. Not really. We're here to talk about other things. Like…are you all all right, with the newest things happening on our island?”

“If you're not, is there anything I can do to help? Besides the snacks, of course.” Snacks almost went without saying. Almost.

“Were your sweaters all right yesterday? Or the falling candy? Or the bears? I like the bears but they could be frightening if you weren't expecting them.”

Caritas- Tuesday

Kitty was trying to arrange some stuff for the New Year's party in her downtime.

Tino was riding a lit up reindeer outside. She told him they could just put lights on the mechanical bull and he wouldn't chance getting thrown down any stairs, and yet.

Also now she had to get lights for the mechanical bull for the holidays.
